The whales come to Maui usually around November until the beginning of May and I thought it would be a fun birthday adventure. I have to admit I was a little nervous about bringing a toddler on a whale watch. I worry about her getting too much sun and wanted to make sure we were comfortable. Jenny and Noah were able to come help us celebrate and she reassured me that the boat experiences she had with him were always a blast.
I found this cute lightweight 50 SPF rash guard by Rip Curl as a birthday gift for Pania at Adventures Sports Maui. We lost both of her SPF hats but the white cloth eyelet hat worked well. I even had some reef shoes that worked well although she did take them off towards the end of the trip.
The great thing about the boat we took, Sail Trilogy, is they never over book their tours like a lot of the other companies. So there was tons of space to move around with Pania and Noah. The boat has a lovely gallery with plenty of covered space to relax and take a break from the sun. I was also really impressed with all the snacks including fresh fruit and drinks.
The crew was super friendly and very knowledgeable.
* Fun fact: Did you know a male humpback whale’s song can last for more than 40 minutes?
We had such a great time and if you live on Maui or come to visit I highly recommend booking a tour with Sail Trilogy. I took their sail to Lanai before Pania was born and it was a great experience too. We saw several whales during the tour and even a baby popped up towards the end. It was even more memorable that we were able to enjoy the trip with friends.
I filmed a video of our day for Pania’s 2nd birthday which you can check out here:
