I have really enjoyed this whole process and seeing the way my belly changes every week. Dealing with the outside world with the bump has been pretty entertaining to say the least. I’ve had a woman pray to my belly, another come over and start frantically rubbing my belly and several others try to guess if I was having a girl or a boy. Most think I’m having a boy.
At 7 months I am officially in my third trimester on the home stretch and knew it was time to take photos. Trying to find a photographer, especially on Maui, was very overwhelming as there are so many options. So I asked my dear friend Katie for some suggestions and she recommended a family friend named Mariah of Mariah Milan Photography.
I had originally envisioned a North shore location along the reef because of the meaning of Pania (goddess of the reef). But on the morning of my shoot the entire north shore was covered in a dense rain cloud. Luckily we had discussed a few other locations as back up and headed to the South side to blue skies and sun. The nice thing about living on an island, among other things, is even though the weather can be unpredictable at times you can usually find a side that is drastically different than the other.
We ended up at One’uli Beach which is one of Maui’s few black sand beaches near Makena. I love this spot because it is not typical white sand. Mariah was thrilled that I picked this location as she is always trying to get visitors to shoot here. It makes for great contrast and shows a side of Hawaii that most people don’t think about.
Mariah did an amazing job and I had so much fun working with her! I hope you enjoy the photos as much as we do and I look forward to the day I can show Pania.
Lots of Aloha,
